The population of tigers has dwindled dramatically due to several reasons. During this time, Sariska Tiger Reserve served as a blueprint for other tiger reserves, showing that with dedicated conservation efforts, it is possible to bring tigers back from the brink.

The number of tigers in India has increased from 2,967 in 2018 to 3,682 in 2022, an annual rise of 6 per cent, according to the latest government data released on the International Tiger Day on Saturday.

Project Tiger has 53 tiger reserves spread across every ecosystem in India: from Namdapha in the north-eastern Himalayas to Pakke and Nameri in the foothills; Danpa in the Mizo hills to Valmiki in Terai (Bihar). Relocation of a tiger from the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (RTR) to the Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR) took place on Sunday aimed at increasing the tiger population in Sariska.
